I am writing this on my birthday.
New Foundation For My Ministry
For the last few months, I have slowly been laying the foundation for a new aspect of my ministry. I am hoping to become far more proactive in my video output, far more than before.
But it is a slow climb. It involves growing in skill-sets that I hadn’t had considered before. Using technology that didn’t exist when I first started. Using platforms that didn’t exist either.
A few years ago I convinced my wife to get me a top quality video camera. I still have it. I’ve used it. But I’m a one-person show; I can’t do as much as I’d like in light of my limitations.
Then I invited a few budding filmmakers to my state where we crafted a video for one of my favorite songs, “This Time of Forty Days.” It was a fun, fast shoot. Currently there are over 70,000 hits on YouTube. Many people make it a perrenial to post online, or play before their students, every Ash Wednesday.
There should be more. But that to me, was a one-time justifiable expense, where I got a sense of exactly what it took to make a video. The lights. The filters. The makeup. The scenery. The editing. The sound quality.
After which I had anticipated I would make many more videos for my songs, or at least talking-head videos.
And here, I have failed. Or, more accurately, worked at a snail’s pace, if the snail had a broken leg and was blindfolded.
Slow Climb, Sure Pace
But over time, I have taken some of my earnings and put them towards this reality, step by agonizing step. I have purchased the lights. I have purchased the proper editing software. I have registered for online courses. I have learned how to record my own songs–both my originals AND my parodies. I have set up my camera on my desktop PC. I have a Mac, if all else fails.
It is my hope that within the next month, I will finally get the last parts of this set, which will have a dedicated spot in my basement where I can make these videos at a rapid pace.
After this, I hope to really step things up. But I need your help.
